So, for one day only, I’m bringing together beautiful horses, fabulous costumes, creative portraiture and professional studio lighting for a very special Equine Portrait Pop-Up in Torquay.

A small-group, hands-on equine photography experience where we throw the rule book out the window and create something a little bit extraordinary.

This isn’t your everyday equine photography workshop.

What We’ll Photograph

We’ll be creating two completely different styled equine portrait shoots, each with its own look, feel and lighting setup.

Think beautiful horses, fabulous costumes, gorgeous models and dramatic outdoor studio lighting.

I’ll demonstrate each setup before you shoot, explaining not only what I’m doing, but why I’m doing it — and then you’ll get to create your own images.

You’ll learn how I approach lighting, camera settings, composition, posing and directing a creative equine portrait shoot, and you’ll have plenty of hands-on time to put it into practice.

What you’ll learn and Skill Level required…

Throughout the day we’ll work through two creative setups featuring beautiful horses, models and fabulous costumes.

You’ll photograph a variety of looks and styles, from elegant and timeless portraits through to more dramatic images.

I’ll demonstrate each setup before you shoot, explaining exactly what I’m doing and, more importantly, why I’m doing it.

You’ll learn how to:

• Create dramatic portraits using studio lighting outdoors
• Balance flash with natural light
• Choose camera settings for your lighting setup
• Position and shape your light
• Pose horses and people together
• Direct your model with confidence
• Use costumes, movement and texture to tell a story
• Create depth and separation from your background
• Compose beautiful fine-art equine portraits
• Troubleshooting your lighting when things don’t go to plan
• Take your images from “nice horse photo” to something much more intentional and artistic

And, of course, there will be plenty of time for questions, experimenting and creating.

You don’t need to be a professional photographer, or even shoot fully manually. You simply need a good understanding of your camera’s basic controls and the exposure triangle.
